TLA Holds its 2011 Annual
Workshop and General Meeting in Mbeya
Tanzania Library and information Association (TLA)
this year held its Annual Workshop and General
Meeting from Wednesday, February 23rd to
Friday, February 25th 2011 at Mkapa Hall,
in Mbeya region.
The theme for this year workshop was
Libraries in the Age of ICTs: Challenges and
Prospects in Tanzania.
The annual event
was attended by 82 TLA members from all over the
country. Before the Annual workshop TLA organised a
pre-workshop to Librarians from Southern Highlands
on Information Literacy from 21st February to 23rd
of which 30 librarians attended. The pre workshop
benefited from the grant from EABDA/BAMVITA. The
resolution from the annual event was to urge the
government to make sure that all schools have
library run by a qualified librarian as a
prerequisite to registration.
This is because lack of libraries and information
services in most schools has been sited by
participants as one of the factors that contribute
to poor students’ performance in our country.
